APPEARANCE DETAILS
Appearance: John stands at approximately 6’ tall with a rather normal muscle build. He has dark brown hair that is a bit longer in the front than in the back and because of this the front of his hair is sometimes called “sticky uppy” as his hair tends to stick up a bit in the front. Though not extremely short, his hair is about an inch or two long on each side of his head, with the front being about two to three inches long. His hair usually does not like to stick flat to his head, hence why he keeps it rather short. Matching his brown hair is a set of bright blue eyes that usually always shimmer with curiosity. His skin is a normal cream color, neither pale nor tan.
Clothing Style: John likes to wear semi-casual clothing, usually ending up in a pair of neutral colored slacks and a button down long sleeved shirt. Occasionally he is known to also wear jeans and a regular plain old t-shirt. It depends on his mood, and sometimes it also depends on the season.
Special Accessories: --
PERSONALLY
Over-all Personality: John is very laid back individual, usually letting others do his work for him if it doesn’t necessarily have to be taken care of by him. He can be lazy, but when the time comes for it he puts himself into action. He takes care of everyone he knows, and even those he does not know. He has a very playful personality, always joking and … even flirting most of the time. Whether John flirts with males or females doesn’t matter to him, he is attracted to both genders. When first met on the street, John can be seen smiling and having a warm nature about him.
There is a secretive side to John which also brings about a somewhat dark and dangerous side to him. He prefers to keep his past a secret, and can be incredible witty in avoiding talking about his past. This secrecy leads to a protective nature of his past, and it also leads to his nature to protect those around him and those he cares about. He will do anything within his power to keep the people of Earth safe. He will especially keep those who are close to him safe at all costs.
When first met on the street, John can be seen smiling and having a warm nature about him.
This leads to his somewhat dark and dangerous side. When trying to protect those he cares about, this serious side will most definitely come out. There will be no more joking, no more flirting; there will be only John’s coldness to deal with. Alright, so an occasional joke might slip in even when he’s trying to be serious…

BACKGROUND
History: John Dering was born to Franklin and Aileen Dering in Blackford, Scotland. A year and a half after he was born, his brother Gray was brought into the world. The two were practically inseparable. They were always playing together, slept in the same bed, and were brought up the best any two boys could be. There was one person in particular that both of the boys remembered as they grew up – Their uncle David.
Uncle David was a very interesting person to these two boys. John and Gray would always ask their parents when Uncle David would be coming, as Uncle David always told the most extraordinary stories. When their Uncle would show up they would sit in their bedroom, legs crossed, listening intently to their Uncle’s stories. He told stories of worlds beyond the stars, of places where there were pastures of red grass, worlds filled with snow and creatures not from their planet. One story in particular was about a creature that lived for billions of years.
One day, when Uncle David came to visit, he said he had a very special story. John and Gray were about 10 years old now, and were starting to notice something about their Uncle. He never seemed to age. He still looked like the same Uncle they had seen when they were 1 and 2 years old. It did not really affect them or scare them, but it began to worry their parents. Uncle David made sure that both boys remembered this story in particular, and that day that he told the story he seemed very anxious and nervous. He made it clear and very important that both boys remember. John and Gray nodded their heads, being rather confused as to why their Uncle was acting so strange.
The story went that this creature would live billions of years, and when it was time for the creature to die, it would whisper a secret to one who was like the creature. It would whisper a secret that was heralded to open the heavens. This creature would not die until its time, as everything has its time. Uncle David had smiled to Gray and John, hugging them both on the floor. His eyes were watery, and Gray and John almost started to cry themselves when seeing their Uncle like this. When their Uncle took his arms from around the two boys, he whispered: “I’m sorry. I’m so very sorry. I have to go now, and you won’t see me again.”
That night, John and Gray fell asleep crying in each others arms. They were never told why their Uncle David left, nor where they told why they could never see him again. His parents kept quiet about it. Before their Uncle left that day he had an argument with Franklin and Gray, arguing that the two needed to leave with him. The argument ended with Uncle David being thrown out, with none of the Dering family to ever see him again.
The next day, John and Gray were out in the field playing ball with each other, though neither was very happy. They were just trying to pass the time, really. As John threw the ball towards Gray, the two both lost their concentration as they heard screaming back in the town. As the two began running back towards the town, they were stopped by their father. Franklin told John to take Gray and run away as far away as possible while he went back to get their mother.
Frightened and terrified, the two boys grabbed each others hand and began to run away from the town. As the two ran, however, they heard footsteps behind them. Someone, or something, was catching up to them. John began to run too fast for Gray, and Gray ended up stumbling and falling. Accidentally letting go of his brother’s hand, John immediately turned around to grab his brother’s hand only to feel a sharp pain in his past. He heard the cry of his brother, but then felt numb, falling backwards and his vision going black. He had been shot through the chest.
Awaking hours later with a gasp, John quickly grabbed at his shirt. His breathing was heavy, it slowly starting to calm as he looked through the hole in his shirt. He placed his hand lightly to his skin, it being warm to the touch. There was a red stain on his shirt, and dirt around where the wound he had before should have been. It was gone now. His wound had healed, and the bullet that had killed him now lay in the dirt beside him. As his thoughts gathered, he remembered his brother and his family. He quickly ran back to the town of Blackford, only to find it destroyed. People lay dead in the streets, and buildings were burnt to the ground.
Hoping against all odds to find his brother, he went home. All odds were in fact against him, as when he returned home, all he found was his father’s dead body. Devastated from this tragedy, John began to search the world for his brother. His brother had to be alive, he just had to be. He refused to think that his only relative was dead. His brother was somewhere, and he would find him. This incident was what sparked John’s love of people and his love to protect those around him. Whatever those things were… they would not do the same thing to another town.
Years passed, about ten but John was never counting. Through those years he hardly aged at all. He spent his time traveling from place to place, finding out more about his “ability” as he traveled. He would sometimes get into fights and ended up being stabbed by broken glass or being shoved into electrical wires. No matter what he did, he just couldn’t seem to … die. He could not seem to find his brother Gray, either.
In his travels, he heard of T’zenshin Institute. Where a person could go and say “I’m gifted” without being treated like a total freak. Not like he was treated like a freak… no one ever stuck around to see if he survived and he sure did not stick around either. Perhaps at this school he could learn more about himself, and most importantly more about his ability. Maybe someone could help him; maybe someone would be able to tell him what he really was. Maybe, just maybe, Gray was there too. Maybe Gray had the same ability and went to this school too.
Secrets: John seemingly cannot die. When he was ten years old, he was shot through the chest and left for dead. However, he woke up hours later only to find that he was still alive. He was told stories when he was younger by his Uncle of a creature or alien that lived for billions of years. These stories always made him wonder if he is one of those creatures. He heals almost instantly if the wound is minor, and more major wounds take time for him to recover. He ages incredibly slowly, still having a somewhat “boyish” feature about him because of this.
Gift: A miraculous healing ability that seemingly does not let him die.
