APPEARANCE DETAILS
Appearance: Klaus stands in at a nice 5'8" with a pretty unhealthy skinny body. He doesn't look terribly in shape, and has very little (if any) muscle in his body. His skin has a bit of an olive color to it, though for the most part he's more on the "pale white" side. His hair is a nice, chocolate brown color that spikes up in two spikes in the back when he has a hat on (which is always does), when his hat isn't on it spikes up a bit more in the middle though not by much. He bangs that are in a similar, spiky fashion and poke out from under his hat in two spikes that are brushed off to his right. As for his eyes, they're brown and sparkle with charm and curiosity and hide pretty much everything he's thinking. A calm smirk normally graces his features and makes you wonder what he's thinking.
But like he'll tell you what he's thinking. His expression won't give it away either; he does have the perfect "poker face", after all!

Clothing Style: Klaus' choice of clothing might make people consider him an anachronism of sorts. He likes to dress in an old fashioned way, while his absolute favorite clothes being a white dress shirt with a blue tie beneath a dark gray/light black vest. He wears brown colored pants and always has on a blue jacket and a blue hat that are the same color as his tie. He also wears blue socks and dark gray/light black shoes. To carry pretty much everything, he uses a brown messenger bag that he doesn't really leave for whatever reason. Most of his clothes are similar to this, though he does have some normal-looking clothes in his closet...although it's very rare that he decides to dress normally.

PERSONALLY
Over-all Personality:
Klaus is characterized mostly by the fact that he puts on an act all the time. He's calm, clever, and likes people to not know who or what he is, so his personality is always changing and so are small details about himself. Most of the time, though, Klaus is pretty friendly, helpful, and charming to everyone - he doesn't really like seeing people in distress or states of emotional disorder the most and tries to help people if they're upset or hurt emotionally. He's very friendly, and is often striking up conversations with his fellow classmates or joking around with a few of his friends. He also cares for all living things, especially animals and often takes care of them to the best of his ability. Klaus also loves his siblings very much, and often cares for them as well as he can, even though he doesn't get to see them that often since he enrolled in T'zenshin and they're the only two people that he truly trusts with all of his being.
Speaking of trust, that's one thing that's hard for people to get from him. He's rather cynical and paranoid, and uses his "friendly" persona to see if people are planning anything against him or people he truly likes. It's very hard for people to earn his trust or respect, and he isn't comfortable revealing things about himself, which has caused him to lie about his life until he finally became a compulsive liar. Pretty much every day he'll be spouting some lie out of reflex, though he doesn't really feel guilty about lying because he always believes that he lies for very good reasons. Klaus is also known to overthink things and is always analyzing situations...he's really like a walking thought bubble in that way.
Klaus doesn't really get too attached to people or things quickly, but when he does love something or someone - he loves with a deep, deep passion that's almost scary. He drowns himself in the thing that he loves, or if it's a person that's the object of his affection (or even infatuation), he'll become very clingy and obsessive about that. He'll try to get as close as he can to the person of his affections and if they already have someone special...well, then he'll just have to take care of that, huh? He's definitely not one to care if the object of his affections doesn't care for him, he'll make them love him. It's like love or infatuation can twist his personality completely. However, his obsessive nature with love most likely comes from the lack of love he had while growing up and he feels insecure about whether or not people really care for him. Klaus is actually very insecure with himself and easily hurt, despite his confident and controlled appearance that he perfected over the years.
While alone, Klaus is often found researching crimes, reading mystery novels, solving puzzles, or maybe even singing or playing his viola or violin. All of those things help him keep his mind off of things that might be bothering him.

BACKGROUND
History: Felicia and Alexander met during a show that they were both preforming in (seeing as they were both wonderful, fantastic musicians that a great deal of people loved), and they kept in contact for a while. After some time, the two of them fell in love and Alexander proposed to Felicia and not too soon after that, Felicia had their first child.
This child was named Klaus Leighton, and from the very start he was a bright child. He picked up the violin at age four, and studied it intensely, his parents were happy to see that he had picked an instrument to play though they did have something to do with him starting at such an early age. They subtly pushed the boy to have an interest in music and they obviously expected him to pick up an instrument early on in his life, but Klaus didn't really notice too much at first. He merely picked up the violin because he loved the sound that it made, which he was exposed to from CDs and when his parents were practicing some things.
As his life went on, though, Klaus began to notice some things. He went to school and got very high grades, but his parents always seemed uninterested in his grades and how he was doing, all they really seemed to care about was music and how his lessons were going. This discouraged the child and made him extremely upset, but he sucked it up and worked harder so that they would pay attention to him. It worked, kind of, and his parents would give him the minimum amount of praise but it still made him happy beyond belief to get appreciated. However, his parents disliked him being even the lest bit out of line, and whenever he wasn't kind and polite his parents would hit him - not necessarily slap him, they would sometimes do that but normally he just got a harsh slap on his hands with a ruler or some other object.
When Klaus was five years old, he was introduced to something that made him even happier. His twin siblings, Siobhan and Jacob Leighton. He loved the two of them fiercely as soon as he met them, and when they would cry he would often play a soothing lullaby for them, he would play with them, stay in their room with them all night long, and all sorts of things. When they could talk and walk and do all sorts of other things, Klaus was always there to help them out or keep them company. The three of them were as close as could be, and they all loved each other very much. At the age of ten, Klaus picked up the viola at the request of Siobhan, so that they could learn together. Jacob, on the other hand, picked up the cello and would rather learn it on his own. But that was fine. Nothing mattered as long as he had his siblings, and the hits and yelling and everything else didn't bother him nearly as much, because Siobhan and Jacob were there to make things better and he would help make them feel better.
Everything was as it should be. They didn't need their parents to be happy. Klaus was happy enough with Siobhan and Jacob. He still worked hard at school, and was always bringing home near-perfect grades from all his classes, which were always higher level classes. When Klaus was around 11, though, his parents decided to make him take voice lessons for singing, and his teacher was a wonderful man Jozua Aaij and he had great progress with the man. They would train pretty much everyday, and about a year later, Klaus met a wonderful girl - Jozua's daughter who was two years older than him - Johanna Aaij. Her voice took him away and he quickly developed a crush on her. She was pretty, fun, and they got along far too well. They would often sing duets together and have fun competitions with each other. It wasn't much longer til they both admitted to liking each other more than they should and they began to date.
During his time with Johanna, Klaus tried to be the best boyfriend he could be. Playing songs for her, singing her to sleep, buying her gifts to show just how much she meant to him - they were almost sickeningly sweet but they didn't care. Jozua was fine with them dating, and often joked about the two of them marrying later on.
This lasted for a while and it made Klaus even happier than he was before. However, it didn't last forever. Their relationship was slowly dwindling away, and while Klaus normally sneaked into her room to talk to her (he always told her when he was doing this in advance of course) Johanna started to stop letting him in, and one day he found out that she was leaving him for some school, T'zenshin Institute. He asked her why she was leaving him, why he couldn't go with her, and why they couldn't keep in contact. The only reply he got was a stern look and harsh, harsh words telling him that love wasn't enough before she finally cut off contact with him.
That was one of the first time Klaus cried, but it was okay. Everything was okay. He had his music, he had Siobhan and Jacob.
Who needed love? Not Klaus Leighton. Nope. He didn't need it.
A while after, his parents had came to the conclusion that Klaus was extremely gifted, and that they would like to send Klaus to the same school Johanna went to (she graduated last year). Klaus, never a foolish boy, figured that there was some underlying reason but he never figured it out and he was sent off to the school, away from the only two people that made him happy, away from the familiar, and away from his beloved violin, viola, and vocal teachers.
He's a little discouraged, but he's sucking it up and is doing as much as he can to take his mind off of Lelystad. To do this, he is constantly working and has joined the Student Council as well. Hopefully, just hopefully, though...there will be more distractions.
