The room was silent. Students walked along the hallways at a leisurely pace. One student walked into the room and sat next to a little girl with milky white hair. The little girl turned to the student and smiled. The little girl was fairly friendly to most of her classmates. A student sat down behind the little girl and said that he thought it was too quiet. The little girl turned to the male student behind her and agreed. It really was too quiet. The little girl, Aalyshah, then suddenly turned to the teacher and told him it was too quiet too. The teacher responded by connecting the too quiet with a lame joke of his. She summoned up a fake smile and then the room became silent again. After a minute or two of awkward silence, the teacher began class.
Once class ended, Aalyshah sighed when she saw how it was outside. Many people decided to take the day off because of the large downpour of rain. Even with an umbrella, Aalyshah was soaked. Her shoes even made squishy sounds as she walked back to her dorm room. On the way to her dorm room, she saw many of her regular friends along the way and stopped to briefly chat with them. Eventually, she made it to the dorm room 602. She searched her pockets for her key and then opened the door. Her bell around her neck jingled as she walked in. She kicked off her shoes and took off her wet socks and then sighed.

It's so confusing... Why is water falling from the sky? It was strange to see it covering ground as ice or, how Earthlings call it, snow. But this is even stranger...
Lynvil, the tallest ninth grader and probably the tallest of all the 'girls' in school, stared through the glass of window in west tower lobby. She was allowed to skip the last class after the stomach aches she had. Gosh, why did she eat that thing called 'meat'? It is what hunter-animals eat. Her people can't eat it. WHY couldn't she just pass it and take the 'salad'?
With a sigh and new wave of sickness in her stomach, Lynvil headed upstairs, towards her dorm. She had to lie down... she had to sleep a bit... it will be better after some sleeping...
Finally, she reached the room with number 602 and opened the doors. Oh... her 'roommate' was there. Lynvil didn't know much about the other person. They talked a bit... but it was usually just few words to acknowledge the presence of each other... or something in that manner. Mostly because Lynvil would already barely speak when they meet. And before the alien learned English... Well, there's no way they could have understood each other.
As Lynvil entered the dorm, she headed towards her bed same moment, cursing it on her native language and in her regular whispering tone for being so short...

After Aalyshah got all her clothes off, she managed to take a shower and then put on some dry clothes before her roommate walked into the room. She turned her head at the sudden entry of the tall white haired girl and looked with amazement at her. She had never seen anyone as tall as the girl. The girl towered over all most everyone at the institute. In her previous plane of existence, there were tall people like her roommate, but they weren't human. She stood up off the couch and walked towards the girl. She didn't really know much about her roommate except she didn't talk much. When her roommate, Lynvil, did talk, Aalyshah had to listen a little bit harder than normal to understand certain things.
Aalyshah was right behind Lynvil when the tall girl cursed the bed for being so short. The short little girl back away and frowned a little. She then said in Lynvil's native language, "What's wrong? Can I help you?"
Aalyshah didn't reconize the change in language. Languages to Aalyshah came freely and easily. There was nothing that made her mind switch to another one. It was all automatic. She then looked into the room and wondered what the problem was.

Wha... Aalyshah understood her native language? How's that possible? Humans didn't even know about the existence of planet Enashi, how come they could understand the language?
"I don't think you could," Lynvil replied in few swift Enashian words. She had to see if her roommate was really able to understand her language.
"I ate... meat," she added in English, not being able to find correct word in her own language. 'Meat' wasn't a word Enashians had. The only thing they have is 'dead animal' to describe the food carnivores eat.

Aalyshah saw a small look of confusion on her roommates face and wondered what could be wrong with what she asked. She thought a little bit about it couldn't find anything. She looked at Lynvil a little confused and heard her reply. Aalyshah frowned and then said in Enashian, "That's a shame. I can try to help you."
When her roommate switched to English, Aalyshah didn't quite catch anything but how much slower it was for Lynvil to continue the conversation. Aalyshah wondered why her roommate eating meat had anything to do with something being wrong. She then replied in English "Eat meat? Is your stomach weak and can't handle meat or something?"

This girl... could it be that this Earthling wasn't aware when she spoke different languages? Well, that was interesting. As much as Lynvil has noticed, this school was filled with Earthlings with various powers. They said that outside, in the big cities, there are more regular - "non-gifted" people.
Sitting down on the bed and pulling her legs up, the Enashian girl watched Aalyshah with interest mixed up with ill-look which represented the storm in her belly.
"You can't help. Enashi people can only eat what you call 'vegetarian' food. Only fruits, mushrooms and, when there's not enough food, leaves," Lynvil spoke again in Enashian language, waiting for few moments before she spoke again.
"How come you know my native language?" Lynvil asked before lying down. The bed was short for her... so she had to lie in the pose that will shorten her body the most.

Aalyshah watched as her roommate sat down on her bed and pulled her legs up to get int the bed too. A small smile appeared on the girl's face as she thought it was funny for someone so tall to cram into a bed so small. She noticed the look that Lynvil had on her face and felt a little sad that her roommate didn't feel so good.
Once Lynvil spoke again, Aalyshah was prepared for how silent her voice was. She listened and didn't know why Lynvil was speaking so much more than she ever had before. She thought about what she was talking about. Enashi people sounded like some African tribe of people to Aalyshah or something else from another country of the planet they were on. The only eating vegetarian things and even leaves made her really think of the old African tribes. Aalyshah was a bit thrown off when Lynvil asked her how come she knew her native language.
Aalyshah had done something like this before after just hearing a few words of another's language and switching to it in the middle of a sentence. She frowned mostly because she didn't notice herself doing it. She started to speak after thinking about what to say in Enashi and after Lynvil had gotten into the bed completely. "Um...well. I didn't notice I was speaking it. I must have gotten it from you. I eventually learn the languages of people I'm around a lot." Of course it wasn't the full truth, but Aalyshah assumed it would be good enough.

"That's interesting... Is there many people like that?" Lynvil asked after few moments of giggle-like sound coming from throat and small parting of her upper lips. That was great! Her roommate could talk on Lynvil's native language without any problems!
Only moving her limbs, Lynvil started taking off her shoes and gloves off, wanting to take off as many clothes as possible. This 'winter' was way warmer than regular temperatures on Enashi... And Lynvil couldn't bear all the "heat". Her arms were needed only for one shoe, while the girl used her lower and upper limbs equally well while taking off the unnecessary trinkets.
As all four gloves fell on the ground, Lynvil curled up even more. "This place is so different from my home... So... Unusual... There is more variety to people than in Uvonarra..." Lynvil spoke, remembering the number of strange people passing through the space station on her planet. One of the things Enashian kids of her age liked doing was sitting in the café of the station and watching the passers-by.

Aalyshah felt herself concentrating harder on Lynvil's words as it seemed her classmate began to open up more and feel more comfortable with talking. The little girl's eyes squinted as she struggled to just hear the conversation. When the bigger girl asked if there was more people, Aalyshah began to think about it. Technically there was, but then again, she wasn't sure if she should reveal anything. After a while of saying nothing, she saw Lynvil start taking off her shoes and gloves. It was then that Aalyshah noticed the small separation of Lynvil's lips. She stared at them for a while before saying, "I suppose...there are others like me. Not many however. Are there others like you?"
She finished her sentence as she saw Lynvil take off her last shoe with her feet...that resembled hands. She stared at them for a while before hearing a voice come from the girl in front of her. She only concentrated enough to hear that there was more variety to people here than at her home. Aalyshah nodded to Lynvil and then started to speak again. "This place is different than my home as well. Most people where I'm from are large like you...except they aren't very intelligent. Most of them are predators too, so I have to watch out. Being here is much more enjoyable."
Aalyshah took the time to move closer to the Enashi and then take a closer look at the strange creature. She looked at the four limbs of Lynvil and smiled after thinking of the way the monkeys and apes used their feet for things. She took a seat next to Lynvil and then smiled.

At first it seemed that her roommate won't answer, but she did. So... there were more people with ability like Aalyshas'... That was encouraging....
"Of course there are. There's around four hundered known tribes, plus the city people and those who live under the tree tops," Lynvil replied, like it was the most logical thing. Well, it was for her. For Earhlings... maybe not so much...
"My home is darker and colder... And it has a lot of trees. Men are very tall and strong. They protect us from beasts. Women are small and they gather food. Women here are even smaller than Enashi women..." Lynvil added on the end, thinking of the first days she spent here, very confused by how small people here seemed... And people of this planet didn't seem to be able to function on trees. And they would freeze instantly if they came to Enashi...
But then, this place was very hot... Some of Enashians would get heatstroke if they ever came here. If she ever returns home, Lynvil will never again say that some days there are hot. Compared to these temperatures, the 'hot' days at her home are just refreshingly warm.

Aalyshah listened to her roommate, Lynvil, as she described her people and her city. She began to connect them with monkeys, apes, and gorillas even more by now. She thought about the number of tribes. Four hundred tribes didn't sound like that many people. She wondered if the Enashi's planet was the same size or smaller than Earth. When Lynvil continued to explain about her home, Aalyshah wondered how much was in common with her own plane of existence. The hierarchy of what the different sexes did make her wonder why every mammal had the women gather food and men just protect the women.
Aalyshah nodded to Lynvil after she was done explaining her home and then thought about something. She wondered why Lynvil was here instead of gathering food on her planet. "So...why are you here instead of gathering food on your planet? Are you searching for more food on Earth or is something else happening that you need to be on Earth?"

As the questions came, Lynvil looked away, remembering that no one is supposed to know why is she here...
"Don't tell anyone this... I'm not what you call 'girl'. I belong to the Enashi mid-gender, the nurses. If I was at home, I would rise children as soon as grow up," the alien spoke, knowing that the only way out of conversation WHY is she here is to distract the other person by something else.
"I'm too big to move as freely as women do, but not big enough to fight a lot. I can defend myself from some smaller enemies and solo hunters, but mid-gender's specialty is escaping from danger because we are faster than men and more agile than women," Lynvil added with a smile. And next to all of that, mid-gender is like that WITH a child in its pouch.

Aalyshah saw how Lynvil looked away and then back towards her like she was giving some big secret up. Aalyshah nodded as she was told not to tell anyone about something and then listened. The first thing that Aalyshah thought about when Lynvil told her she wasn't a female was a little bad. A frown appeared on her face until the Enashi went on to explain a mid-gender type Enashi. The word 'dud' appeared in her head to describe her. She thought of the different genders of other species. It wasn't quite like a primate at all. She wasn't really interested in learning about the reproducing aspect of the Enashi, but some trivia would be good to learn. "Hmm..." Her bell jingled as she twitched her head to the side a little.
